App Store screenshot sizes for iPhone and iPad
These are the exact pixel dimensions BowlerLaunch exports for App Store Connect. Design once at the largest size, and every smaller set is derived from the same layout instead of being rebuilt by hand.

iPhone screenshot sizes
The 6.9-inch set is the one to prepare first: it is the largest required resolution, and Apple scales it to cover smaller iPhone displays automatically. Add the other sets only when a specific display deserves its own art direction.
| Display | Portrait (px) | Aspect ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.9" display | 1320 × 2868 | 110:239 | Largest required set — upload this one first |
| 6.5" display | 1284 × 2778 | 214:463 | — |
| 6.3" display | 1206 × 2622 | 201:437 | — |
| 6.1" display | 1125 × 2436 | 375:812 | — |
iPad screenshot sizes
If your app is available on iPad, App Store Connect asks for an iPad set as well. The 13-inch resolution is the largest, and covers the rest of the iPad range.
| Display | Portrait (px) | Aspect ratio | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13" iPad | 2064 × 2752 | 3:4 | Required if your app supports iPad |
| 12.9" iPad Pro | 2048 × 2732 | 512:683 | — |
File requirements
Screenshots must be PNG or JPEG in RGB, flattened, with no transparency and no rounded corners — the store applies its own corner masking. Upload them per localization: each language you list can carry its own screenshot set, which is what makes localized captions worth doing.
How to get every size from one design
- Capture raw screens from the simulator at the largest device size you support.
- Compose captions, device frames, and background once, at the 6.9-inch canvas.
- Export every required resolution from that single composition.
- Repeat per localization by swapping only the copy, not the layout.
That is the whole workflow BowlerLaunch automates — including the iPad set, the app icon, the splash screen, and the store listing copy that goes next to the screenshots.
Frequently asked questions
- How many screenshots can I upload per app?
- App Store Connect accepts up to 10 screenshots per display size, per localization. The first two or three are what most people actually see in search results, so put your strongest value proposition there.
- Do I need a separate set for every iPhone size?
- No. Apple scales one uploaded set down to smaller displays, so a single 6.9-inch set covers the modern iPhone catalog. You only upload additional sets when you want display-specific art direction.
- Do screenshots need to be portrait?
- They need to match the orientation your app supports. Portrait is standard for iPhone; landscape sets are accepted for apps that run landscape, and iPad apps commonly ship both.
- Can screenshots include text, device frames, and backgrounds?
- Yes. Marketing screenshots with captions, device frames, and branded backgrounds are standard practice and allowed, as long as they represent the real in-app experience and do not imitate system UI or claim features the app does not have.
- What format do App Store screenshots have to be?
- PNG or JPEG, RGB color, flattened with no transparency and no rounded corners. BowlerLaunch exports flattened PNGs at each required resolution.
Apple occasionally revises accepted display sizes. Confirm against Apple's official screenshot specifications before a submission if it has been a while since your last release.
